Does anybody know of an FKT for this? Basically a 38ish mile loop up and over southwest VA's three highlight peaks: Tinker Cliffs, McAfees Knob, Dragons Tooth. Somewhere around 9000ft of climbing, lots of miles on the AT. Here's a link to a description of the route as a 3 day backpacking trip, would make a great 1 day supported run effort: www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2381254Might be trying this in the spring!

Surprised this isn't an established route yet. Seems like a great loop. Going to try it sometime fairly soon.

From what I can gather online, it looks like their used to be an unofficial non-event every March. Not sure if it still happens. The FKT for the full 35 mile loop seems to be around 6:50.

I don't know anyone has set out specifically for an FKT on this loop. It's a training run staple for our crew here in BBurg and folks tend to call it the Catawba Runaround. Smiles above is right: It typically measures 35 miles with 9,000 feet of gain using a smart watch. Local runner Jordan Chang has done it more than anyone I know, and I suspect he probably has turned the fastest loop. He's off Strava these days, but my money would be on him for the best time.
