Hey group, Has anyone recorded a FKT for the Harney Peak Ascent/descent? Highest point between the Rockies and Swiss Alps.

I was thinking Nathan Morey did at one point just at an hour. He never wears a GPS watch ran with Patrick Wellner and he may have had his phone for the route He may have bin slower than Nathan though they have pictures I am sure of the before and after on that. Patrick Wellner Did graduate from TF. Riggs high school in Pierre South Dakota where he lives. Nathan Morey ran the Black Hills 100 in the 100 in the first year it was created in 2011. Nathan Finished 4th that year. I hope this helps to find the info on the run.

I ran Black Elk Peak (formerly known as Harney Peak) yesterday from Sylvan Lake in 59:46 round trip. I botched the final turn near the summit (mistakenly continuing on Harney Peak Trail #9 descending to the North), which cost me 2 minutes and then spent about a minute on top taking in the views and snapped some photos. My ascent time was just under 34 and figured I gettng down in 25 would be a slam dunk. Cruised most of it, but then realized it would be real close and had to sprint the final 1/2 mile to dip under.

You are now the fastest if you have proof to show your route somehow.

I am going to attempt to break the Harney peak FKT this weekend. I'm surprised there's not more information on this record

Hey, just curious on this FKT. What are the established parameters? Are there any? For instance, what is considered the top or turn around - lookout tower? or the actual highest point at the geological marker? Starting/stopping point the parking lot edge or a trailhead sign?

I think since I started the thread and live in South Dakota that the run starts at the beginning of the trail its self and goes to the bottom of the Lookout tower or the highest point if that is actually marked on the course, can't use an altimeter on your watch, most do not have that on their watch or a separate altimeter watch. I think that covers it for the Fastest Known Time on Black Elk Peak (former Harney Peak). Also the use of hiking poles is allowed unless the trail prohibits the use of them on or any points on the trail then follow the rules for the trail or you get Disqualified if somebody has proof of you using the hiking poles when not allowed by the park.
