The Cross County Trail is a 40.5 mile trail located in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is made up of bike path, sidewalk, and dirt single track. More information, including maps, can be found on the CCT page. I have reached out to the Virginia Happy Trail Running Club and have found the FKT to be inconclusive. There was a race held on the CCT back in early 2000's and much of the CCT has been rerouted since then. If anyone knows of anyone who has run the entire length, recently, please update. I plan on running the trail this summer in a supported manner.

I planned to ride my pony on the whole trail this year and tried in on one weekend, we started at Mile marker 1 at Great Falls and tried to go North but could not get under Georgetown Pike with ponies so we headed south. We made it to Oak Mar, (my daughter and I on two ponies) but it was challenging with downed trees and washed out creeks. It was good. The next day my other daughter and I rode from Lake Accotink to Lorton on the ponies. Unfortunately we got a bit lost and made wrong turns several times, so we covered quite a lot more miles than we should have. The Northern part was much more equestrian friendly than the southern part, which was much more crowded and we got many comments from people saying they had never seen horses on the trail before. Most of the trail was super nice.
