One the NZ's Great Walks the 43.1 km Tongariro Northern Circuit traverses the volcanic landscape around Ngauruhoe at the northern end of the Tongariro National Park. The loop offers about 1750 metres of elevation change. On September 19th I did it in a counter clockwise direction, starting and finishing at Whakapapa village, in a time of 5:34. Such a fun outing on really well maintained trails. A faster runner will no doubt chop an hour or two off my time.

I ran the same route in March of 2014. It was my first time in New Zealand so I couldn't stop taking pictures. Ha! Finished in 8:50, but man if I lived there I would do this run once a week for my long run. Beautiful

I guess I forgot to post earlier, but back in August 2014, I ran the route again and came in at 5:13. Clockwise again, starting and finishing at Whakapapa village. I'm sure someone out there must have run a faster time though. Such a beautiful route, definitely worth running if you find yourself on the north island of NZ.
