I've had a lot of people inquire about the Fastest Known Time of the Rideau Trail. The Rideau Trail is a 300km trail that runs from Ottawa to Kingston the features technical trail, but is also linked together by road and paved path. The Fastest Known Time on the trail is: Time: 83h31m Year: 1983 Name: Bob Tysen Rideau Trail Website: www.rideautrail.org The trail has changed some since 1983 with some sections (some harder/some easier, some shorter/some longer), but the distance is essentially the same and should still be considered close enough to that of 1983 for FKT purposes.

In keeping with the guidelines (ya I read things!!) I will make my intentions known that I hope to attempt the full length of the Rideau Trail in August of 2015. The plan is to do the run in a self-supported manner.
Special recognition to anyone who has even attempted this trail as well as anyone who has hiked it. Also thanks to Derrick Spafford for keeping the history of the attempts alive and for highlighting this trail in a recent article in Canadian Running Magazine.

I'm going to have some fun on the weekend of June 26, 2015 and run the Rideau Trail as a fundraiser to raise money to fight cancer. While I'm at it I will make an attempt at the FKT. This will be a fully supported attempt with support crew and pacers helping me along the way.

Derrick, do you know if there is an FKT for the Cataraqui Trail?

Hello all! Myself and a friend will be attempting to complete the Riddeau Trail (Kingston to Ottawa) from Oct 29-Nov 1 with support from family and friends along the way (Mother Nature permitting). Have spoken with RTA and have even called up Bob Tysen who from what I can make out still holds the record for end to end completion of the trail (way back in 1983)(3days,11hours and 31min). Love to hear from anyone else who has completed the trail and who has last minute advice, tips etc - or love to hear from you if you think Bob's record has been beaten and I have not heard about it!

Update to above. No FKT on Rideau Trail will be attempted. Due to time limits, not wanting to get lost at night and keeping wife from worrying-will be straying here and there from trail during my "Rideau Run"-so will not be a record-but heck anyone wants to try and do 300+k on 90% RT in 2.5days (if we are successful -let em try!
Main goal as was from beginning to have an adventure for my 40th- do as much of RT as possible and push my limits!

My goal this fall is to run the trail, end-to-end, from Kingston to Ottawa, over 5 days this fall. Not a FKT attempt, but certainly a good recce for a possible future attempt at the FKT. Still very much in the planning stage, but would appreciate any advise from Rideau Trail veterans, especially runners. My plan so far for the 5 days is as follows: Day 1 - Kingston to Sydenham, Day 2 - Sydenham to Westport, Day 3 - Westport to Perth, Day 4 - Perth to Burritts Rapids, Day 5 - Burritts Rapids to Ottawa. I imagine that water sources are plentiful, however I will be hard pressed to carry sufficient food for 5 days while running. Hence I'm considering on putting out caches near the end of each days leg with sufficient food and spare eqpt and clothing for the following day. With so few hikers on the trail, I hope that the caches will be left alone for the 5 days I'm on the trail. Also, anyone interested in joining and or supporting me would be welcome too! tbuehl@outlook.com

As a member of the Wild Bruce Chase, I am noting our intention of running the Rideau Trail in a continuous end to end fashion in an attempt to set a relay FKT. We will be attempting the FKT over the July long weekend of 2017. The Wild Bruce Chase is a group of women trail runners who currently hold the women's relay FKT for the Bruce Trail end to end continuous.

The Wild Bruce Chase is a group of women trail runners who currently hold the women's relay FKT for the Bruce Trail end to end continuous. The Wild Bruce Chase, made up of 11 women (this FKT), set the women's relay fastest known time on the Rideau Trail. The Wild Bruce Chase completed the continuous, end-to-end run in 34 hours 40 minutes. The trail's length is 328 kms. The Wild Bruce Chase started on July 1, 2017 at the North Terminus (Ottawa) and ended on July 2, 2017 at the Southern Terminus (Kingston).
