Jan, that's just amazing. Huge congrats. I can't wait to read more about it... Thanks Larisa! Congrats on VT 100--I really enjoyed your interview with DFL Ultrarunning.

Incredible, especially considering the room for possible technical improvements.
Your website is the shit and I will visit it often.

Incredible, especially considering the room for possible technical improvements. Thanks! If by "technical improvements" you mean not taking wrong turns, it's worth noting that Google Earth says my route was 0.1mi longer than Ben's. So, not much time to gain there. My time will be broken, probably soon, but only because it will be done by someone faster!

Congrats! Really awesome, and i bet you could shave off a minute or two by knowing the junctions a little better.;) I hope to some day take twice as long you.
Side question: does anyone know what the FKT for going all the way to Webster (w/Franklin) is?

What is the standard route for a Presidential route and are hitting the summits requred? See the first post on this thread--there's some good info there. The short answer is there really is no standard route. But for the FKT we have a standard: North to south, going over all summits on the way (Madison, Adams, Jefferson, Clay, Washington, Monroe, Eisenhower, Pierce), and ending at Crawford Notch. We don't include Jackson, which annoys some NH peak baggers, but historically most Presi Traverses have skipped it as it's not named after the president. The initial trail up Madison has been Daniel Webster ever since Ryan did it that way in 2009. I asked him why earlier this year and he said "because it's hard!" If someone wanted to ascend Madison via another trail when going for the FKT I suppose that would be OK, but it's generally better style to do at least as much as the prior record holder did. As long as someone beat the overall time by more than the amount they saved with an easier trail up Madison I personally wouldn't care (for example, someone takes Pine Link and makes it to the top in 1:10, about three minutes faster than my time up Madison via Daniel Webster. As long as they beat my overall time by over 3min I'd consider it a fair FKT). I'm by no means an expert on the NH peaks, but I hope this helps.

Ben - are you claiming the FKT based on this?

Belated congratulations yourself, Jan! I was hoping to up there before the snow, and wanted to wait to run it so I could give an informed opinion on your run. Either way, it was of course very fast, but I now know that you must fly on the downhills. For most of my run, I was thinking that I would be happy to get into the low 4:40's, as I couldn't make up the growing deficit after Adams. I may wear body armour next time! That was by far the hardest I have ever run in an FKT, and just as hard as any race.

Way to run, Ben!
May I just say, both Jan and Ben, you have set the bar high. I aim on hoping to take a shot (that is not canned by weather) next year. It is going to be tough.

Does anyone know if there is an FKT for a women's time? Considering chasing it down this Spring.
