Have been considering this for some time as I am a local Kentuckian. Would love to run it with a partner if anyone out there is interested.

Going for a fast through trip in July. Supported. Trying for 7 - 40 mile/day avg. Trying to log in to sheltoweetrace.com and struggling. Been a member and now I'm locked out. Looking to do some sections / camping / riding and maybe a little paddling June 9 - 16.

The fastest unsupported time that I know of is Thomas Bradford, who thru-hiked the Trace in 13 days in March 2013.
Edit: I'm not sure if this was truly unsupported or self-supported.

I'll do some with you. I can definitely do 20 miles a day. Can only hang for 3 days though.
7/13 through 7/15
If you need a partner for a quarter of the way.
Best, Andrew

Going for it beginning Sunday July 7 and finishing Saturday July 13. Will be supported each night but one and will have aid during the day sometime. Have an itinerary and other info posted on my blog: matthoyesrunning.blogspot.com Going North to South. Andrew - my last day will be the 13th, but if you're interested, I should be coming out of Alum Ford campground heading for Pickett on that day. Toying with the idea of knocking it all off on Friday, but that's probably ridiculous, as I'll be pretty torched by then.

Just wrapped up the Sheltowee Trace (now extended further into Big South Fork for a total of 307 miles) in 8 days. Started Wednesday June 25th at Northern Terminus, finished Wednesday July 2nd at Leatherwood in TN (southern terminus). Was supported with 3-4 hookups throughout the day, gear shuttled for me, and only had to carry a small Nathan pack and two handhelds. Averaged about 38.5 a day. Here's my trip report: matthoyesrunning.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-big-turtle.html

I thru-hiked it in 2007 in 12 days unsupported. I doubt that was a record but just saying. It was only 287 miles long at the time. Rick McQuerry

Hello Sheltowee Trace Trail community! Today I'm announcing my upcoming attempt to set a new FKT for an unsupported thru-hike of the Sheltowee Trace Trail. I first stepped foot on the Sheltowee 24 years ago but haven't been back to it since. However, my brief time spent exploring the Red River Gorge & Natural Bridge on it changed the direction of my life and it has vividly remained in my heart ever since. After leaving the city at a young age to extensively travel the mountains of the west, I'm excited to revisit this trail - but this time in it's totality. If all goes well, on March 21st - at 6am - I'll be springing-off heading southbound. I will not be resupplying during this hike. I'll be carrying my food for the duration of it, from the start. My food supply is also going to consist of 100% whole and organic ingredients. I'll be documenting this aspect of the hike as well at www.facebook.com/wholefoodhiker. As far as water goes, yes, I'll be using fresh water sources along the way to refill from. Regardless of the outcome, I'm using this attempt as a personal challenge - as a reason for myself to train and improve - and as an opportunity to raise awareness to the importance of our adventure-food choices and its effects on both our performance & the environment. Thanks for reading this & stay tuned to see what happens! - Aria Zoner

Good luck on your trip Zoner. Why the decision to carry all of your food instead of being resupplied either in person, or drops you hide near the trail?

Pre-FKT Update: Currently, I'm in Tennessee and heading out tomorrow to get dropped off at the northern terminus of the Sheltowee Trace Trail. For an in-depth look at what's in my pack, and what I'll be eating for this unsupported attempt, see my Sheltowee Trace FKT photo album at www.facebook.com/aria.zoner With scattered rain in the forecast, this could be a wet hike at times. Good thing I've decided to pack my emergency umbrella. Stay tuned to see what happens!
