Scott Spillman set the FKT (CCW) at 2h8m52s on August 7, 2016.
David Roche set the previous FKT at 2h10m20s (CCW) on July 20, 2013.
Kraig Koski set the previous FKT at 2h28m56s (CCW) on October 1, 2011.
Mike Priddy had the previous FKT (CCW) in 3h11m5s on Sept. 2, 2011.
The High Lonesome Loop is a super-popular 16 mile loop in the Indian Peaks Wilderness of Colorado's Front Range. The route begins and ends at the Hessie Trailhead just west of Nederland. This is one of the quickest and shortest ways Boulder's many trail runners to access the Continental Divide, which accounts for the route's popularity.
For purposes of the FKT, the "official" route is as follows (described CCW, though either direction is fine): From the Hessie TH (officially, the bridge over the North Fork of Middle Boulder Creek, just west of the last legal parking spot) head west on the Devil's Thumb Trail. After about 1 mile (just before the bridge over the South Fork of Middle Boulder Creek) take the Devil's Thumb bypass, and rejoin the Devil's Thumb Trail a bit farther up. Continue to Devil's Thumb Pass. From the pass, descend a short distance west to meet the High Lonesome Trail and head south. At Corona Pass turn east on the King Lake Trail and descend past King Lake and back down the South Fork drainage to the trailhead.
As mentioned, this run is very popular. There have probably been some fast times, but I hadn't heard of any until Mike Priddy's 3h11m5s (Sept. 2, 2011, CCW direction). Priddy ran the loop with Eric Paciotti, who finished several minutes later. Priddy's splits are as follows (with GPS distance):
Start at the Hessie TH (bridge) 6:50 a.m.
Devil's Thumb pass in 1h42m (6.5M)
Corona Pass / King Lake Trail jct at 2h19m (9.5M)
finished in 3h11m05s (14.5M)
Once you post a time people tend to go after it, and on Oct. 1, 2011, Kraig Koski crushed Priddy's time, running the loop CCW in 2h28m56s. Splits and a link to Koski's report (with many beautiful photos) are below. Adam StPierre and Brian Boots went after the FKT on June 16, 2012, but ran 2h39m16s (CCW), so failed to beat Koski's time. Koski's time was beaten on July 20, 2013, by David Roche, as reported below (with a link to report with splits). It took another 3 years for a faster time to be reported (below) by Scott Spillman, 2h8m52s on August 7, 2016.
