Hi,
Is anyone tracking FKTs for ascent(s) at the Grand Canyon? I've spent enough time chasing Mackey downhill to know that's a bad idea.
Thanks for any info, leads, or recommended trails.

Blessings, all. I am leaving this morning for the Grand Canyon to attempt the first ever sectuple crossing of the Grand Canyon on the South Kaibab and North Kaibab Trails. In Davy Crocket's parlance, this will be a Triple Double Crossing, or to put it in simpler terms, I will be running a Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim. I will be doing it unsupported, carrying all of my calories from the start and not accessing my vehicle or any food caches or other aid of any sort. I believe this will also be the first ever unsupported Double Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim. Here's my SPOT tracking page: share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=05Fs8havh2eUa888Cc0AOGQC26bWuzdfpI won't be turning the transponder on until Friday night or Saturday morning (depending on travel time), when I start, so it will say "no data" until then.

Blessings. This is Ras checking in from the Super 8 Motel in Hurricane, UT. Exhausted and exhilarated. I carried all of my calories and gear from the start and never accessed my car or took any of the Lara bars or macadamia nuts that kind people offered me. Officials times: Start South Kaibab Trailhead Sat 05/04/20123 8:12 AM North Kaibab Trailhead (1st) Sat 05/04/2013 3:41 PM South Kaibab Trailhead (1st) Sun 05/05/2013 1:37 AM North Kaibab Trailhead (2nd) Sat 05/05/2013 3:18 PM South Kaibab Trailhead (2nd) Sun 05/06/2013 3:43 AM North Kaibab Trailhead (3rd) Sat 05/06/2013 5:31 PM Finish South Kaibab Trailhead (3rd) Sun 05/07/2013 4:22 AM 17:25 for a single unsupported Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim (2 crossings) 43:31 for a double unsupported Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim (4 crossings) 68:10 for a triple unsupported Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim (6 crossings) I will post a link to my blog at www.UltraPedestrian.com with a detailed trip report in a few days. I still have a lot of driving to do to get home.

This weekend I'm going to take a swing at the R2R2R FKT currently held by Dakota Jones. Traditional route, unsupported, mostly a solo effort but will have a friend along for first few and last miles.

I recently hiked r2r2r with my family. My mom, twin sister, and I did it in 23hrs:37mins and my brother finished in 24:50 with my dad. I am 16, but at 14, would my brother be the youngest person ever to do r2r2r? This site sees a lot of r2r2r-ers, so I hope that at least one person knows. I have tried searching the Internet, but I haven't found anyone that has hiked it at such a young age. Thanks for the help! Any luck on finding out the "youngest" R2R2R? I'm going with group that has some teenage boys. Curious if your post of 14 years is a record or does any track youngest? Thanks.

I'm unaware of anyone keeping track of age group FKTs.

Have a R2R2R trip scheduled for Tuesday (8th Oct), it's been in the works for the last 15 months so obviously everyone involved is very upset by the current situation. With the shutdown in effect does anyone have any idea how much trouble we could get into if we do this regardless? I'm from the UK so no idea how seriously people would frown upon this. Any feedback would be useful. Thanks

I had a great day in the canyon yesterday with a group of friends running R2R2R. As expected, there were LOTS of fellow adventurers doing the same. I counted 48-51 (wasn't sure about 3); it was almost like a staggered-start race! Very cool to be playing in the canyon with so many other like-minded individuals.
One that was of particular interest was a woman who motored by my group at Pumphouse on her way to the North Rim; she was clearly on a mission. I saw her again about a mile below the North Rim as she was headed back, still focused and fast. Some other friends (doing rim-river-rim) saw her at the river just as she was starting her ascent of S Kaibab. They went up in under 2 hrs, and said she did, too; again, clearly going fast. When she got to the top, they said she looked at her watch, let out a big cheer, then sat down and just waited for the shuttle. They didn't talk to her, so don't know her time she went, but I'm guessing she got an fkt. Anybody know anything more about her?

Just curious if there are any other known times for the various other rad trails in the canyon? Just ran the Hermit Trail round-trip and was curious what a good time would be on that to gauge fitness.
Cheers, Jeremy Duncan
