The Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia is some 965km long and travels from Perth to Albany. A record of 16 days 8 hours 15 minutes was set on Mon 29/Nov/2010 by Paul Madden.

With Paul's walk, thanks are given to the very efficient support crew of Garry & Beth Shuttleworth and Joy Madden. Further recognition is given to Uwe Thiel, who is one of the previous record holders "Extreme Walkers" team (16d 15h 40m). Uwe was an advisor (Obi Wan Kenobi) for Paul's walk.

Very cool. Can you provide a link for a trip report or further information? Thanks!

To round off the 3 types of event (supported, self-, and unsupported), Jen Pharr Davis of the USA claims the unsupported record of 21 days, set in 2008. This information is cited on her blog www.blueridgehikingco.com/about.htmland apparently in a recent book, but I have not found details posted.

Self Supported record ANDY FAWCETT 17days 15hours and 10mins set in November 2008 What information is available to back up the claim for Andy Fawcett's self supported 17d15h record? (Over Nicki Rehn's 19d record, which would then have to stand as a female-specific record only)

Bernadette Benson (me) now hold the FKT: Supported for the Bibbulmun Track: 15 days 9 hr 48 mins. For verification: (1) I signed in at each of the 48 shelters and am placing an advertisement in the Bibbulmun e-news to have people take photos of my logs. (2) I used a SPOT device for online tracking. Discovered partway through that it was working intermittently - my crew determined that the antenna had to be aimed at the sky, so having it positioned on the lower part of my pack wasn't working well at the start. (3) I logged the entire event on my Garmin 310, with two short sections on my Garmin eTrex, when the 310's battery was flat. Somewhat hesitant to give out this small bit of 'intellectual property' so have offered a screenshot of my Garmin Connect, with the two manual entries done from the Garmin eTrex info. Since GPX files can be doctored, anyway, this can be only one source of verification. (4) I was accompanied for several sections by various people who would therefore be able to verify my presence on the course. (5) I expect some mobile phone records would be logged, since I carried my Samsung Telstra phone as emergency backup and texted with my crew on occasion. Phone was not always turned on, though. I started at the Northern Terminus at 5:29am Thursday 22/11/2012 and reached the Southern Terminus at 3:08pm on Sunday 9/12/2012. That makes 17 days, 9 hours and 39 minutes. I went self-supported utilising 7 very small food drops left out in the days prior and supplemented with meals and food in some of the trail towns. I recorded my days on a Garmin 910 and 310 but mostly using a footpod rather than gps to conserve battery life. I also carried a Spot tracker and have saved screen shots demonstrating my complete coverage of the course (including retracing to correct any wrong turns). I utilised the local taxi at Denmark to get dropped at Pelican Point (boat service is near impossible to access anymore) and followed the official maps and any official redirections to the letter for the entire course. My daily activities were broadcast in brief onto a blog ( www.alpineultra.blogspot.com) and I kept a brief log of my time and distances enroute. I took a picture of myself at every hut (missed one that I stayed in overnight after a late arrival and early departure) and recorded my name in every hut logbook. I plan to write a report for the blog and post a detailed gear list eventually. I had a fantastic time and thoroughly recommend the track to anyone looking for a challenge and adventure.

I planned it so I could buy food in the towns as I passed through, So I didnt need that sort of support. I wana see some one do it unsupported in 14 days. Would need food drops but It sort of looks possible on paper.

Great work on all records so far! I am currently training to attempt to beat the fastest self-supported record in December 2014. I am also raising money for JDRF (Diabetes reseach) I will be signing into each logbook and carrying a SPOT tracker at all times. Giving this track a lot of respect!
