Between the afternoons of October 31 and November 1st I ran the entire length of the Batona Trail from Bass River Park to Ong's Hat, turned around and ran back along the same said trail to the trail-head at Bass River Park. It took me 27 hours and 2 minutes to finish this 103 mile run*. To my knowledge this happens to be the first completion of the Batona Trail out-and-back in one go. I was supported and paced (starting at ~ 30 miles) by my crew from the Raritan Valley Trail Runners. GPS recording for the run (the mapping feature on the watch failed after 51.15 miles, a mile or so before I reached the northern trailhead, but the pace and distance recording continued for the duration of the run, back to the southern trailhead): www.movescount.com/moves/move82369217* - there are GPS recordings that show the length of this trail to be 53 miles, which would make an out-and-back 106 miles.

Nice! Congrats. It would be good to give your name so we know to whom to attribute the FKT.

Hello FKT Enthusiasts! The weather is looking good (and Denis is hosting the race), so: I will be attempting a supported completion of the Batona Trail Out-and-Back, starting this Friday (2016-11-04) around dusk at the Southern Terminus (Bass River State Forest end). I will be running through the night in anticipation of then competing (hah!) in the Batona 50, which starts at 7am from Ong's Hat, heading south. As mentioned, this is a supported attempt. While it will be self-supported north-bound (I'll drop a few bags on Friday), it will be fully-supported south-bound, with aid stations and other runners to help me enjoy my time on the trail even more, which will be awesome! If I can stay ahead of the cutoffs and in touch with any other runners! That's some good motivation! Assuming the tech works, I will be posting a Garmin LiveTrack to my Facebook page for interested friends and family, and then will post a report link here with gear list, a few pics, and the GPX track -- likely on Sunday. Hopefully the Jersey Devil will be out of town, or at least in a generous mood. -Hugh

Oops, never followed up here! Better late than never. Happy New Year! Well, the short story: I only managed the one way overnight, after adding a few too many turn misses. But I guess I got the self-supported one way FKT in 13:05:50! It was still a lot of fun, and I'll be on the Batona Trail again soon. Trip ReportGPS TrackSo your FKT still stands, Denis! I'll get you yet!

On Friday October 20 I, Dan Rosenthal, will attempt a Batona Trail yo yo starting and finishing at the Southern Terminus. My dad will come down and support me and enjoy the botany. I'll start around dawn. This will also be my 4th attempt to finish a 100 mile run. I'd love to have others join for as long or short as they like. I could provide refreshments at the end.
