Yesterday evening I spoke with Gavin as he was finishing up segment 2. He was in good spirits, notwithstanding that the initial pack weight for an unsupported 15 day hike is ridiculous.

Well not seeing any updates since last month with Gavins attempt I assume he failed. I am planning an attempt next summer. Can anyone tell me the best way to document it for a record? What did Paul do? How do we know he did the whole trail in 14 + days? Thanks

Bill the record is about to be reset, see below. Shawn Forry is less than 50 miles from the end, and is at 10 days 4 hours currently. If he makes a long push you may see under 11 days as the new record. Certainly under 12. Track Leaders has become the new standard in verification, due to the real time monitoring. GPS tracks work as well, but in the end it is still the honor system. trackleaders.com/ctri.php?name=Shawn_ForryGood luck on your effort next year.

So it looks like 10d 19hrs is the new record. Now that will be tough to beat. I think 50 miles a day is achievable with the right equipment and training but unfortunately for me I have to work full time so my training would fall short of what would be required. Way to ruin my next summers goal Shawn lol. He did a great hike no taking that away!

Does anyone know the fastest known female time or of attempts on the CT? That would be Betsy Kalmeyer's 9d10h52m in 2003 (supported). I don't have any info on female unsupported trips.

Per FKT courtesy, I am stating our attempt to set the new Colorado Trail FKT, departing next Thursday. I have invited a large number of runners to join and managed to snag a few: (Myself-Troy Shellhamer), eric grossman, and mike ambrose . I will post progress when and if time allows. I am tracking via Garmin GTU.

I will be attempting to break the FKT for the Colorado Trail on August 16th. I will be going West to East on the traditional route (Collegiate East). You can track my journey on Twitter: @mexifast or my FB page: www.facebook.com/Mexifast. I will also have a film crew document my progress. I would like to contact Paul Pomeroy to let him know of my intentions but do not have his contact information. Here is my SPOT tracker for verification: trackleaders.com/cti.php?name=Scott_JaimeAnyone have Paul Pomeroy's schedule. I would just like to see a side by side comparison. Scott Jaime

Our attempt at the CT FKT was foiled... Troy Shellhamer (myself) succumbed to Hypothermia on day 2 and fought on for several more days but tossed in the towel a little before halfway. Eric Grossman, my partner on this endeavor followed the Collegiate West route by accident and the detour cost him 8 hours. This record holds little to no margin of error, and that 8 hour slip was enough to end the bid right there... This attempt still leaves me at a lack of words. We'll be back.
Best of luck to Scott Jaime in his upcoming attempt. I wish him great weather, strong legs, and a determined will. Enjoy each step.

Since the FKT under the unsupported record did deviate from the "definition" of unsupported wouldn't t be more reasonable to categorize as self supported ? Is there a self supported FKT currently? While there are few services available it may not make a difference. I'm considering an attempt next summer and want to be clear as it relates to the standard that I'll be held. Thanks!

Shawn reported his effort as unsupported, so I put it down as that, but include the differences that he mentioned from strictly unsupported style. You can decide for yourself whether you think it should be listed as self- or un-.
