Ran the GRT on Monday. I was hoping to go under 7 hours and used Jan's splits as a reference to see where I was pace-wise. I was right on his splits up to Haystack, where I lost 1 minute. Lost another 4 on the way to Marcy, as I was getting a bit too tired to run a bunch of the flat sections. I really enjoy the down though, and was able to gain a few minutes on the descent back to the Garden. I finished with 6:38. I can't really imagine shaving 40+ minutes off of that! Eric and Ryan have a pretty impressive time! I'm thinking of getting some more training in and then giving it another go, but we'll see where the motivation levels are at!

Nice run Trevor! Yeah, Eric and Ryan's time is certainly holding up as one heck of a strong effort.

From September 9th post. For September 20th run/hike. Great day, temps perfect for the GRT. I was able to do half of it, a little bit more than half, 16 1/2 miles. Brutal. I will need three day recovery. As I am still new to this trail, and mountain running. Gothic the half-way point. Upper Wold Jaw, brutal. And going down Gothic. Wow. The rope wire is so helpful, but a good 200 yards of butt and palm sliding or creeping down. It was a wet day, not down pouring, more so at the top of the mountains, rain and windy. This is a technical trail, as I am learning. Less running than I am used to from the mountain trail at the DWG I train on once a week. What a trail. I am so humbled by it, and yet so moved by it. Even moving like a wounded animal returning to my car and the next few hours. I was able to meet Mark and Tom, two experienced mountain trail runners, who were able to do the full Traverse, and get below their goal time. They help me much with this new found passion. Hedgehog is not that difficult anymore. I don't think I can do the full Traverse before the years end, depending on early or late snow, and my fitness. But the tougher of the mountains I did on this trip. I may do the half way point again or go to Basin next time, in 2-3 weeks. I love the ADK.

If you hike the great range at the right time in fall, with a blue sky, it will take at least an hour longer because the views are spectacular!!
