Vermont's wildest and most beautiful summit (4083') must be something of a local test piece, as I know Enman, Pilla, and Lapierre regularly grace its flanks, but other than on Strava, I've never been able to compare times. In interest of that, and hopefully in luring a few ADK / NH runners to throw down in the Greens, it seems worth starting a thread. The Burrows Trail is the mountain's most popular and shortest route, climbing ~2200' in 2.4 miles for 4.8 round trip, and I make a point to put in a hard effort every time I'm back in the state. On August 28, 2013, I ascended the trail in 35:47, a PR of almost 2 minutes, then botched the descent for 1:05:41 total (GPS data available here). My round-trip PR, set in early-winter conditions on January 2, 2012, is 59:36, off a 38:44 ascent. The finest route on the mountain, however, is the Bamforth Ridge Trail / Long Trail from the Winooski River, climbing almost 4000' in 6.2 miles for 12.4 round trip (more total gain with rollers). Cresting numerous knuckles of granite as it shoots up the mountain, the trail is only marginally runnable, but elegant and direct, and boasts spectacular ridge-top views unusual to the area. On September 5, 2013, I ran the trail to the summit in 1:38:42, for 3:00:00 round trip. Conditions were wet and treacherous after heavy rain, so I suspect this can be brought to 2:45 or so in dry weather without much trouble. GPS data available here. - Ethan Linck

Awesome! Camel's Hump is such a great peak, and I love seeing it from the Adirondacks. Can't wait to give it a shot for time some day. Thanks for posting.

Eli, I will be spending a lot of time in VT in the future, and plan to take a shot at Camels hump. I wouldn't be as bold to say I am making a record attempt having never been.

On September 20, 2014 i ran the Monroe trail to the Camels Hump summit in 42:06. Not sure if this is the overall FKT or not so I'd love to know what other non Strava users have put up. I know guys like Josh Ferenc could crush this. It is quite technical and I'd say is about 95% runnable, just lots of really short sections where you speed hike up scrambly sections. Today was overcast high 50s at the base and incredibly windy on the summit. www.strava.com/segments/7737076

On Oct. 4, 2014 I parked near the intersection of Camel's Hump Road and River Road, ran the River Road to the foot of the LT (Bamforth), up the LT South to Camel's Hump Summit (river road to summit in 1:36:37), then down Monroe to Camel's Hump Road and down the road to my car. Time for the 14.8-mile loop was 2:50:01. Previous PR was 2:55:21 in icier conditions in Nov. 2013. Strava segment: www.strava.com/segments/10619170My run on 10/4: www.strava.com/activities/406098979/overview (shows a "moving time" of 2:46:00, but the total time car-to-car was 2:50:01). I'm sure others can better this time by a good amount, but thought I'd put it out there because it's such a fun loop! peace, gb

Hello all, I'm new to this thread, but I have been searching the web for FKT for Camel's Hump Monroe Trail from Parking Lot to Summit. I have been running it at least once a week this summer, and I just PR'd with 48:08 to the top. I didn't have Strava at the time, but I took a picture at the summit and times along the way. How do I find out if this is the FKT for women other than on Strava? Thanks!

Ran the Burrows Trail yesterday: parking lot- summit- parking lot, in 55:22. Is this a burrows and overall camels hump FKT? Such a proud mountain, I'd love to know or see future times below 50! The trail was pretty much a river and then ice at the top. Unfortunately I don't have a gps watch, so I can't give that proof, so I guess take it for what it is.

Spinney, That is definitely a cruising time. But I am noticing that this may be the record to the summit, but NOT back to the parking lot. Round trip. According to the Strava. My time of 55:22 is Round Trip, [Parking Lot--> Summit --> Parking Lot] My record does lack a GPS confirmation of this, at the time of the record I did not have any means of a GPS, but now that I do I will attempt to re-duplicate in the spring.

Ethan Nedeau ran 1:31:53 to the summit on July 26, 2016 to break the previous (Strava) FKT of 1:35:00 by Ben Mayberry. On July 30 John Stanton-Geddes, Todd Smith, and I ran 1:25:56, 1:28:22, and 1:28:16, respectively. We had very good, relatively dry conditions. Not too hot. The following day Tom Thurston and George Deane ran 1:29:20 and 1:35:47. Really fun to have so many folks getting after it on this one! gb

Gavin,
I was up there on July 31 too! Couldn't believe it. Made it up Bamforth in 1:34:XX - wasn't wearing GPS. Huge improvement for me, and I thought it was a pretty good time until I hopped on here and saw all the recent activity! Good on all of you! Can't wait to get back there - and maybe bring out the GPS again!
