Hello Individuals,
It's been on my mind for some weeks now, and if the weather is good for either Friday or Saturday (6th or 7th) I'm going to give a go on a Double Presidential Traverse. Does anyone know of an absurdly unrealistic FKT that should be on my mind as I stroll through the mountains?
Also, I do not own a GPS watch, but I do have a Suunto quest with foot pod and heart rate monitor. Would my movescount data be proof enough to warrant an FKT on the long shot I did well?
Any information would be helpful. Be sure to give me an ample amount of shit.
David

How'd it go, Joe? I bombed out after one pass.

We ended up staying on the AT and hitting Jackson and Webster/Webster Cliffs. May try it next year, this time bagging Pierce and heading out to Crawford Notch. Still, with 11 peaks, I thought what we did was harder than the Pemi Loop.

double presi done June 21, 2014 connect.garmin.com/activity/526090778Time: 17:38:10 Route: Crawford Path trailhead on Rt. 302 to Daniel Webster Trailhead at Dolly Copp Campground, and back. Peaks: same as for the one-way FKT -- Pierce through Madison. Stats: 39.4 miles, +17,309' gain (from AMC White Mountain Guide Online) Mode: supported (food taken from Madison and Lakes of the Clouds Huts) I would guess this has already been done faster, and have no doubt that any of the usual suspects (Welts, Wilcox, Nephew, Welford)could run it much, much faster, maybe sub 11, if they wanted to.

Nice work, Jeff! One way trips are enough of that for me! Were you looking to create a Madison direct route up there?

Ha-ha, I was wondering if anyone would notice that bobble. I spaced the turn up Osgood Tr. and went out on the Parapet Tr. until I hit some krummholz and woke up. So I just went off trail a bit to get back on track up Madison.

This probably is an FKT if no one has argued against it. Great job! I did the same trail North to South and was imagining what it would be like to turn around and do it again...then I went to my car happy I didn't have to.

On March 14 2015, with winter conditions, solo and unsupported, I ran-hiked the Double Presidential Traverse. I couldn't claim the FKT because of 2 détails: my turnaround was Appalachia (Daniel-Webster is not hiked during winter) and I didn't include Pierce summit in my run. By posting here, I just want to give another reference for someone who wants to attempt this incredible run. I manage to run the first half from Mt Clinton Rd Parking to Appalachia (including Madison summit) in 6h32. The weather changed drastically on my way back (in 8h08) for a total run time oh 14h40. I don't have any GPS route available, only my credibility as an ultra-runner (www.sebastienroulier.com) Here is a video of my journey: youtu.be/rUgxQysuF_MHappy trail Sébastien (from Sherbrooke, Qc, Can)

great job! nothing wrong with letting Appalachia be the turnaround for a winter or summer double, in my opinion. But shoot, hitting Pierce twice would only have costed you 20 minutes max.

I'm going to give this a try tomorrow, July 16, 2015.
I'll start and end at Crawford Path trailhead on 302 and turn around at Daniel Webster trailhead at Dolly Copp campground, hitting all the peaks from Pierce to Madison in both directions. Same route as Jeff List FKT on June 21, 2014.

How did it end up Mike? I might try to give the route a shot Saturday if the weather is right. Probably starting in Crawford Notch.

Hi Jesse. I was feeling good, but decided to stop after just a single traverse as I thought the double was going to leave me way too fatigued to handle the drive back home (2 hours). I'll try again some time and plan on sleeping in the car afterwards.
Good luck on Saturday.

My plans changed, I won't be attempting the double. Going to try to keep up with a friend on the Mahoosuc Traverse instead.
