Hi Ryan and Larry,
Good try on your Tahoe effort. Just one note, the definition of unsupported is being Solo. Just wanted to let you know incase you try again next year. Wouldn't want you to finish the trail and find out your effort was not actually classified as unsupported. Check out the unsupported vs supported information on the FKT main page. Hope this helps. Looking forward to another attempt.
Mike

Tomorrow morning (Friday, 7/10/15) around 5.00 AM I’ll be taking off on a single push effort on the TRT, hoping to match Mike Tebbutt's intimidating time of 54h 17m. I’ll be leaving from Spooner Summit trailhead and going counterclockwise, following the unsupported FKT ethos of no assistance, stashes, or resupplies, and will only drink from natural sources. Phone will mostly be off but should track to spotwalla as I come into cell range. Link is below. I'll check back in and post how it goes. Adventure awaits!! spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=df74559e8c91ee853Update - Success!! Managed to make it around the lake in 51h 45m, starting at 5.07 AM on 7/10/15 and finishing at 8.52 AM on 7/12/15. Mike Tebbutt was able to be there to verify the finish time, and the tracker should now be updated to show the whole trip. I'll post a full report and more details as I get it put together, any questions or specific details feel free to shoot me an email at seanranney at gmail dot com or look me up on facebook Finished the trip report, check it out here: www.scribd.com/doc/272681637/Tahoe-Rim-Trail-FKT-Trip-Report

That wasn't happening. Spooner to Tahoe Meadows went OK - just under 6 hours. However, the wind gusts with cool temperatures resulted in a bit of hypothermia and sapped me too much yesterday. Never quite recovered and kept on losing time. Bailed out at Barker after taking almost 30 hours to get there. Almost bailed out at Brockway and Tahoe City before that. In any event, 51:45, or even 54:17, is most likely out of my league . PS:not sure why Spot acted up.

I will make a go for the TRT women's supported FKT starting on Monday September 28. I plan to start from Big Meadows and run the loop clockwise. The SPOT tracker link will be posted on my facebook page and I will follow up here, after the run. I'm excited to give this a go! Such a beautiful area - Krissy

We did it! Supported Womens record - key word being supported. I had the best crew that worked together easily making the running piece my sole focus. I was told the SPOT went in and out and was a bit sporadic, but hopefully the track is good enough paired with photos and documentation from my awesome support team. I started at 11am 9/28 and finished at 10:29 9/30. Amazing runner trail, TRT.

8/28/16 Update: It was not my day, quads were blown by the time I got to Big Meadow, so I bailed. EDIT: Take 2, barring major incident in life or work, I plan to head out this Thursday, Aug 25, sometime before the sun rises. EDIT: False alarm. Thought I could make it happen this week and really wanted to for the waters sake, but too much life and work going has me feeling pressured and sore in the lower back. Gonna wait another 1-3 weeks before heading out. Will update on this post when I truly commit The time is near for my annual Unsupported TRT FKT attempt. I know how much I enjoy following other people's tracking for big runs, so I thought I'd post a little early too give all 5-7 people that pay attention to this stuff a chance to see it. I will will take off this Thursday (7/21/16) at approx. 4-5:00AM from Spooner Summit heading clockwise. I will follow the same route and guidelines set forth above in the last 3 FKTs by JB, Sean and myself. Full disclosure: Last year I walked along the Mt Rose hwy from the south side trailhead to the north side trailhead as I thought this was the route to link the 2 trail heads. Sean followed the interpretive trail in between the THs, adding a half mile or so to the route. I WILL BE FOLLOWING THE INTERPRETIVE TRAIL ROUTE THIS YEAR; going out now to check it out and make sure I know it. Sean lit a fire under my ass last July 12th to get in better shape and truly wittle this thing down to the bare essentials in the hopes of acheiving lofty goals. After a long winter with lots of snow and skiing hard, there are a few key extra water sources flowing in some of the drier sections and the temps are looking very moderate next week, so I am and excited and nervous as ever about giving this another try. Here's the tracking link (It will only show a world map until I actually start): spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=118d057845134c2501

I may just be confused but have there been no self-supported attempts? Seems to me it would be relatively easy to stash food along many parts of the TRT thus cutting down on overall pack weight

They say that "the third time is a charm". It's been five years, but I will be making another attempt this Thursday, September 7, 2017 at breaking the supported record on the Tahoe Rim Trail. I will depart Tahoe City at 6:30AM and will travel counter-clockwise. The goal time is 38 hours, 31 minutes. Plan B is to beat Tom Flahavan's 2012 time of 45:35. Plan C is to finish some time on Saturday which is my 49th birthday. My pacers/crew consist of Bert Keely, Brian Lucido, Caren Wick, Chris Castleman, Drew Smith, Heeva Asefvaziri, Janet Wagner, Ken Huang, and Rudy Rutemiller. There will be two modifications to Kilian Jornet's 2009 route (not counting the section where he was led astray for 4 miles . The first modification is the Kingsbury single track which was completed in 2012. Kilian ran 4 miles of road in lieu of trail in this area. The new route adds roughly 1.6 miles. The second modification will be at Mt. Rose Summit. We will travel on the single track around the north side of Tamarack Peak in lieu of the fire road alternate. This adds roughly 1.1 miles. Updates will be posted to the Book of Faces. The link is here: www.facebook.com/groups/1906050476383357/

I am going to be making an attempt on the unsupported Tahoe Rim Trail fkt. I plan on starting in Tahoe City and will run Clockwise around the lake. I plan to start around 6:30am this Tues (Sep 26). I'll have updates via spot tracker posted here: share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0TqMo1E96L538IceEGHYcZiI30y2AUoVE I am watching the Squaw Valley web cams, and if the north facing aspects still look to be holding significant snow from the recent storm I may postpone my start date by a day to let more snow melt, but I expect that the warm temps will do some melting in the next couple days. I'll also try and post updates along the trail to my instagram page when I have some reception. Should be fun! RG Update: Well, I was not able to get this one done. I have the utmost respect for all the guys and gals who have successfully put this trail together unsupported. It is truly a gem of a trail, one of the coolest routes anywhere in the US. I think a large part of my ultimate demise were my poor pacing decisions early on. I felt like I was really taking it easy, but in retrospect it was not easy enough for 170m with a reasonably heavy pack. I made it to Spooner lake (64 miles) in 14:40. By mile 80 or so I was starting to have issues. I was not really able to eat at all starting then, and for the next 10 hours it turned into a death march, slowing to around 1.5 miles an hour. I pulled the plug at highway 89, around 103 miles in. Bummed I did not make it all the way around. Next time....
