Hi everyone, Headed back out tomorrow morning sometime. Leaving from Whitney Portal. I don't have an exact time to start due to catching a ride with the chamber of commerce and road construction. Going solo and unsupported again..... I know I said never again, but I really love being out there alone and the added challenge. Same basic gear setup as last time, but some minor changes to my food. Here is a link to my delorme share.delorme.com/ambermonforte Amber

I don't have the official time, but from her Delorme track it looks like Amber finished in approximately 4 days and 5 hours (101 hours) for a new FKT by about 19 hours over her previous FKT!
Well done Amber, congrats on what must have been a wild and difficult journey!

Hi again,
I finished up a magical trip on the JMT yesterday and have been busy enjoying sleeping and the best pizza ever. Trailhead to trailhead time was 4 days 5 hours and 6 minutes. JMT time was 4 days 1 hour 13 minutes. I'll get a trip report out in the next week. I wasn't aiming to go this fast when I started out but felt good most of the time until my feet fell apart during the last 24 hours. Right now it's time to eat and go back to sleep.

Using the data which Peter Bakwin has carefully collected, I copied it to an Excel file and created a couple of graphs of the FKTs over time. They might be helpful to visualize the FKT progression in different categories. The Excel file is also available if you want to modify it: www.stanford.edu/%7Eclint/fkt/jmt.xlsxI found 2 minor additions to the main data table: 1. Jim Knight 4d1h 7/22/1990 Maybe self-supported - he bought a burger at Red's. (see his post in this thread) 2. Andrew Bentz (3d7h8m) time from Whitney Summit. From his youtube video, subtracting 3:52 from overall time.

Update - No go, that trail chewed me up and spit me out. Went out way too fast, blew up, and bailed on the second day. Had fun and learned a lot. Sean Wednesday morning (8/24/16) around 5.00 AM I’ll be taking off on an unsupported speed hike Northbound on the JMT, hoping to measure up to the accomplishments of everybody who has pushed themselves across this trail. I can’t list everybody who has inspired this endeavor, but I thought Maune’s record was absolutely untouchable until Andrew Bentz came along, and I marvel at Amber Monforte’s mental fortitude to push herself to crush a record she already had. I’m looking forward to the experience, it’s a long trail so plenty of opportunities for things to go well. Adventure awaits!! Sean Ranney As long as the spot isn’t acting spotty you can follow me here (map will update when I start tracking). I’m aware of the discussion regarding summit vs. portal, my personal opinion is that the portal is the start so I’ll be tracking time from there. spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=1202557ba65c2a44fc

New to Proboards. Not sure if this is the place, for me to make a declaration on an unsupported record attempt of JMT northbound record from Whitney Portal this coming labor day weekend, 2016. I have just turned 60. Don't laugh, I have been training all year, running and hiking up steep hills. I am sure that I will beat Reinhold Metzger age 63 2004 record (5 days 7 hours 45 minutes). I will keep a time count from the Whitney Portal as well as from Whitney Summit.
Side note: This task has just became more difficult because my daughter just finished the JMT southbound 8/28/2016 reporting that it was snowing on at Muir Pass. Much colder temperature.
If I have made the declaration at the wrong place, please correct me.

The declaration that I made on 9/01/2016 "make a declaration on an unsupported record attempt of JMT northbound record from Whitney Portal this coming labor day weekend, 2016. I have just turned 60. Don't laugh, I have been training all year, running and hiking up steep hills. I am sure that I will beat Reinhold Metzger age 63 2004 record (5 days 7 hours 45 minutes). I will keep a time count from the Whitney Portal as well as from Whitney Summit." was a NO GO due to illness.
One week earlier I contracted a intestine infection. With all the antibiotic that I was taking I felt better, in low altitude SF Bay Area. When my daughter drove me to Whitney Portal, the symptom came back with a vengeance, lots throwing up and diarrhea. Lessons learn, altitude will magnify any illness, make sure you are healthy before going high altitude.
I will make a next attempt in 2019 when I am 63. I did get lot comment from others (not on this forum) regarding my age 60 is not the same as age 63 of Metzger. Why argue the issue, I will just wait until 63 to try for the record. There are other competitions like the Bataan Memorial Death March in March 2017 go after for now.
I will be back in 2019.

Getting a notion to go for an age record. Is there such a thing? I'll keep looking but any help would be appreciated. Looking to conquer the 55 and older unassisted. I'm thinking it's Metzger's but not sure.
