Congrats on the new records, Mike, Justin, and Bethany! It was great to see your reports. It's neat that runners can compare times and splits, and I'm very curious to see where the Zion record goes over the next couple of years. Great that you were able to run together, Justin and Mike--very cool team adventure!

I'm planning on attempting a double-crossing of the traverse next friday, march 28! I'm planning to go for lunch in Springdale and then hit the trail around 4pm, and I'm thinking of starting at the west trailhead at that time. I haven't decided fully but I'm thinking I will do self-supported with stashes along the way, my friend Meghan will be running the one way back (east to west) so depending if we run together, it may become supported technically.
Anyone want to meet up for lunch before?!

hey guys! anyone in the area, I'm planning to go out and run the beautiful double-crossing pioneered by Craig Lloyd, I have this urge to go and find out why no one else has done it since! I'll be starting at the Lee Pas / west trailhead Friday late afternoon, ideally I can start at 4pm or so, and run to the east rim trailhead, then back to discover the route in daylight. You can follow me on satellite map to come and join the fun here: share.delorme.com/42fa7ff1e82e4e60b00a68e7c45ed486 I'm planning to do this self-supported in food/water/gear, stashing food along the way, and as for company I plan to have a friend joining me for the second half I welcome others to come along!

Jennilyn Eaton and I returned to Zion the other day, November 7, 2014 for another go at the Zion Double Traverse. We started at the Lee Pass trailhead at 5pm and ran our first crossing through the night under the watchful eye of a full moon. We returned the opposite way the next morning with a few friends in two who wanted to do a single crossing. We set a new FKT of 24:50:06. The upload missed the last mile and a half (on the map, not the actual distance), but that time is accurate, to the second. We were only crewed 4 times in the entire 100 miles, making much of it self-supported. It was a fun way to do it. Peter, just confirming that Skurka's 9'27" is STILL the unsupported FKT.

This past Friday, May 20th, I lowered the women's Zion Traverse FKT to 8:26:09.23 running from the East Entrance to Lee Pass. I ran this supported by Montrail (Eron Osterhaus) and a film crew (Myles Smythe from Sierra Studio Films/Michigan Bluff Photography and his partner Damian) who supplied me with water at the Grotto, Lava Point, and Hop Valley Trailhead. I started the run at 6:16 a.m. with Amy Sproston but we separated approx. 5-10 minutes into the run with her eventually stopping at mile 27. My friend Rick Valentine also ran the route following me for approx. 20 miles within the course and took some pictures. I, unfortunately was not wearing a GPS watch, just a watch to keep time. Eron (from Montrail) kept the official time and has the splits from each of the aid points as we were comparing my splits along the way to Bethany's. Rick had a GPS watch on. We arrived at Hop Valley trailhead close together but I left before him and finished 20+ minutes in from of him. We have both video footage proof of the FKT and the official times from Eron. Please let me know what you need from me to establish the new FKT. Thanks so much!! I will be doing a blog write up when I have some time. What an absolutely amazing route.

Hey all - I'm heading out this Sunday morning to see how I do on the Double Traverse. I'll be starting/finishing at Lee Pass and will be supported. Goal is to do it under 24 hours. I'll be wearing a suunto ambit and carrying a SPOT for verification. Will post the results after it's all over, here's to hoping for a good day out in the hills! EDIT 9/28/17: Close, but no cigar. I finished in 25 hours flat, just 10 minutes off the record. It was a fantastic day though, I got to share a helluva adventure with my all-star one-gal girlfriend support crew, see some amazing scenery, and generally have a great day pushing limits in the hills. Lots of admiration for Craig and Jennilyn for pioneering the Double Traverse and providing the inspiration. Didn't even hit too bad of a tourist rush hour around Angel's Landing, which was a nice surprise. I agree with previous posters that I'm surprised the Double hasn't received more attention/attempts. It's a beautiful route.
