A friend, Justin Contois, and I are planning on doing a through run of the Midstate Trail in MA from the NH/MA border in Ashburnham, MA to the RI/MA border in Douglas, MA on April 13. I haven't been able to find any data on a single traverse as a run, so we may be going for the OKT. We're shooting for a midnight start on Sunday April 13th and will be fully supported. The trail is nominally 95 miles.

We ended up getting stopped by a flooded trail near Barre Falls Dam at around 36 miles, but will make another attempt in the fall hopefully. I think the trail length, according to our GPS watches, could be a little shorter than 95 miles.

My friend Matt and I are going to attempt a fully supported northbound thru-hike of the midstate trail starting tomorrow at about 6am. Hoping for 30-35 hours. Will update afterwards to let everyone know how it goes... haha.

We did the first 30 miles in about 10 hours but really werent enjoying it. It seemed like 50% road walking and the sections that were trails weren't very fun. Well blazed but sometimes hard to follow. We dicided to call it quits because it we weren't having fun. I'm kind of disappointed we didn't keep going and see how far we could make it because the trail does seem to get better as you head north but I just didn't see the point in continuing if I wasn't enjoying it. I'll probably go back sometime to finish up the remaining 60 miles.

That's too bad about calling it quits, the Southern end is definitely the more boring and flatter section with all the pavement. Hoping I can make another attempt at it someday.

This weekend (March 12-13 2016), a group of four runners will be attempting to do the entire trail in one run. Will report on Monday how it goes! Start time will be around 7:30am on Saturday morning, from the NH border and heading south.

As Amy noted above, last weekend (March 12-13, 2016) a group of runners set out around 7:30 am on Saturday morning to complete a supported North to South MidState Trail traverse from the NH Border to RI Border. Gregory Soutiea, Charles (Chad) Hornbaker, and Jake Dissinger completed the approximately 93 mile through run in 23 hours 43 minutes according to our official watch times. We were supported by an amazing group including Amy Rusiecki (who ran the first 60 miles and then crewed overnight), Dan Dissinger, Pam Dissinger, Stephanie Robinson, and Billy Hafferty. Below are links to Greg and Chad's Strava data. I have also included a photo album below which includes time stamped photos from each end of the trail although it is important to note that due to Day Light Savings the clock on my iphone camera automatically went forward by an hour overnight during the run. This means the photo taken at the end on 3/13/16 is actually showing a time stamp that is an hour ahead from the actual running watch times. We will follow up with written trip reports and other links once we have those available. www.strava.com/activities/516216057www.strava.com/activities/516370642Photo Album

We did not beat the OT, but completed the self-supported attempt in 27:39:35. We dropped aid at Bragg Hill Rd, Wachusett Parking, Intervale Rd, E Hill Rd, Rtes 9 & 20, at the Northern tip of Douglas SF and at a near-border lean-to. Water at aids & treated on trail. I timed the run with a Timex watch & Scott attempted to Strava until he ran out of battery. He then shut the phone down & turned it on at the border when we were making a check-in, not realizing the track was still in progress until we were driving back North the morning after: www.strava.com/activities/604682114
