I hadn't heard of this attempt to run across America, but apparently Rob Young tried to ride partway in his support car, and got fairly convincingly caught: sportsscientists.com/2016/10/rob-young-investigation-key-findings/It makes me think about the level of verification necessary if there were ever much money and/or fame in nabbing FKTs. Maybe it's good that the mountain stuff that interests me remains obscure and low-stakes, and people can take each other at their word.

Has anyone actually seen karl metzers GPS track data from his AT run - or do we just take his word and Red Bull's.

I'm inclined to take him at his word, but if I were not, a GPX file would do nothing to change my mind, since it's easy to create one by hand. A satellite beacon, like Young apparently used, would be the only thing that would change my mind.
