The Escarpment Trail is a 23.2 mile long trail along the Catskill Escarpment in upstate New York. The trail begins at Schutt Road just outside the Border Kaaterskill North-South Lake Campground (Haines Falls, NY) gate. From there it goes north to Route 23, climbing over Stoppel Point, Blackhead and Windham High Peak along the way. The Escarpment Trail race uses the northernmost 18.6 miles of the trail.
We have few reports of FKTs for the entire Escarpment Trail - just those posted below - though of course some fast times have been run in the race, which covers 18.6 of it's 22.3 miles. See the reports below. Sheryl Wheeler reported running the entire trail from Schutt Road to Hwy 23 and back in 12h20m46s on 21 August 2010. Wheeler said, "I ran the Double Escarpment from Scutt Rd - North Lake in NY to Rt 23 and back, all on the blue trail, in 12:20:46 on Aug 21 2010. I know of no one to do this. I strarted at 5:30 am and had water help by my husband and a friend Dave Boles at the base of Blackhead, at Rt 23 and the base of Blackhead again. When I got done a Collage film crew who just happened to be there interviewed me." Wheeler ran the out and back again on August 17, 2012, in a faster time of 11h33m5s, as reported below.
